Past Perfect Tense

Past perfect tense adalah tense untuk aksi yang sudah selesai SEBELUM aksi lampau lainnya terjadi — "masa lalunya masa lalu". Hampir selalu muncul berpasangan dengan simple past untuk menunjukkan urutan dua kejadian.

Kapan dipakai?

• Aksi yang selesai sebelum aksi lampau lain — The train had left when we arrived.
• Menjelaskan sebab dari situasi lampau — He was hungry because he had not eaten.
• Dalam reported speech dan conditional type 3 — If I had known, I would have come.
